- If you can’t make a Twitter Space, remember that you need to start it on the mobile app.
- It’s also possible that the Twitter Space hosting feature may not have rolled out to your account yet.
- Here are the top five ways to troubleshoot and make a Twitter Space if the feature isn’t working for you.
Twitter Spaces has been available, in one form or another and for some set of Twitter users, for at least two years now. If you want to try this audio-only chat space for yourself, but you find that you can’t make a Twitter Space of your own, here are the top reasons why, and how to fix it for yourself.
You can only make a Twitter Space on the mobile app
Unfortunately, you can’t create or host a Twitter Space using the Twitter website, which means you can’t do it from a desktop or laptop computer. This is a hard and fast limitation, so if you are looking for the Twitter Space hosting feature at Twitter.com, you won’t have any success. Switch to Twitter on your iPhone or Android.
The feature might not have rolled out to you yet
It’s possible that the feature hasn’t rolled out to your specific account yet. Most Twitter users should have access to Twitter Spaces by now, but the service is deploying Spaces based on how many followers each account has. If you have very few followers, you might need to wait to access the hosting feature.
Reinstall the Twitter app
If you can’t make a Twitter Space right now but you’ve been able to do it in the past, there’s a good chance you’re experiencing a temporary software glitch. Often, the easiest way to fix a problem like this is to force-close the Twitter app and then start it again. Here is how to close an app on Android and close an app on iOS. After closing the app, start it again and see if that fixed your Spaces problem.
Disable your VPN
If you use a VPN (virtual private network) on your mobile device, you might encounter problems with some apps. To see if your VPN is the problem, disable your VPN software and then try Twitter again. If Spaces works properly with the VPN disabled, you might have found that there’s an incompatibility with your VPN software. The process for disabling your VPN may vary depending on which one you use, so refer to your VPN user guide if you need help turning it off.
Restart your device
Finally, you might try to use Twitter on a different device to see if you have the same problem with Twitter Spaces. For example, if you have Twitter on both an iPhone and iPad, see if you can get to Twitter Spaces on the iPad if it’s not working on the iPhone. If that’s not an option or you’d rather just restart your device, here’s how to restart an iPhone. If you have an Android device, press and hold the power button for several seconds, then tap the option to power your phone off.
