Sen. Gounardes Re-Appointed Chairman of State Senate Budget & Revenue Committee

State Senator Andrew Gounardes was sworn in to serve his third term in the state senate, representing the 26th District which encompasses the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, Dyker Heights, Fort Greene, Gowanus, Red Hook, Sunset Park, and Vinegar Hill.

Since his election to the State Senate in 2018, Senator Gounardes has been a leading voice on improving street safety and reducing traffic deaths, securing an expansion of the life-saving school zone speed camera program and proposing a first-in-the-nation vehicle safety rating system to measure how severely vehicles injure pedestrians and cyclists when they crash. He is the author of the New York State Working Families Tax Credit, a historic effort to reinstate the child tax credit benefits, and reduce child poverty for millions of families across the state.

In just four years, Senator Gounardes has passed more than 60 bills into law, including legislation to close a loophole in the state’s wage theft law, guarantee family death benefits for public workers who died from Covid-19, and help secure and expand benefits for 9/11 responders. Looking ahead to the 2023 legislative year, Senator Gounardes will continue working to secure full funding for the MTA and for CUNY, as well as passing his groundbreaking Child Data Privacy and Protection Act to keep families and children safer online.

Additionally, Senator Gounardes has been re-appointed for the 2023 legislative session as the Chair of the Committee on Budget and Revenue, as well as to the Judiciary, Higher Education, Labor, Finance, Civil Service & Pensions Committees. Additionally, he was appointed as a new member of the Investigation and Government Operations Committee.
