There is literally only one mechanism for kicking an elected member of Congress out before the end of the term, and that’s expulsion by a two-thirds majority. The founding fathers apparently didn’t think any other methods were necessary, because they never envisioned there would be a Republican Party so fundamentally corrupt that it would refuse to expel someone like George Santos.

So here we are, with serial fraudster Santos under federal and local criminal investigation in the United States (and under criminal investigation in Brazil), even as House Republicans refuse to get rid of him for fear it’ll screw up their narrow majority. But it appears Santos is being booted from some other places.

For instance the National Republican Congressional Committee, whose job is to get Republican candidates elected to the House, appears to have deleted George Santos’ page off its website. His page – located at https://nrcc.org/candidates/george-santos/ – used to have his candidate profile and bio, but is now blank. We checked, and the other winning 2022 House Republican candidates still have their pages intact on the NRCC website, but Santos’ page has vanished. Of course he now says he’s not running in 2024, so perhaps the NRCC is cutting ties with him already.

In another development that may or may not be related, George Santos’ official congressional Twitter account @RepSantosNY03 has been suspended three times today, before being reinstated each time, according to NBC. Santos has barely used his congressional Twitter account since it was created when he took office, as he’s instead still mostly tweeting from his personal account @Santos4Congress.

It’s not yet clear why any of this is happening. But it would appear that the NRCC is already ditching George Santos well ahead of 2024. And now even Twitter is taking some kind of confusing action against Santos. Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy and the Republican House are still fully embracing Santos, counting on his vote to hold their fragile caucus together, even as Santos circles the drain.
